Actually it’s the reverse of what the last person said (not that it was wrong, but I’m just rearranging it for emphasis):

Talent, experience, and a good camera.

Experience by far surpasses any degree as long as you are pulling out great images. I know lots of people with degrees who still can’t produce great images Also I’ve seen people with 50 so called years of experience who also can’t produce great images.

I’m not too familiar with the UK style of teaching (which I believe GCSE’s are from), but are needed for secondary education. If you plan to go to college, which I would recommend, then you would probably have to take math. Which is probably irrelevant to photography, not that you don’t need it, but it is more important for the secondary education purposes.

I’d suggest following a studio photographer, or shadowing a wedding photographer in your area if you plan to go into it. I’m sure you are still a teen? Which would probably give you a heads up on other people your age if you begin working on a portfolio now.

    Good luck.

    i have been a wedding photographer for over 10 years, I am a professional,. I have 10 gcse’s.
the talent is in the eyes…
but there is so much competition that it may not be worth it. however as you are so young get a feel for the industry wether its working in a hotel, bridal gown shop or florist knowledge is power in this field, brides down want well educated photographers, they just want great images.
If i was you I would try to get some work with the local paper, meeting people first, photographing events, do not jump in a the deep end as you will fail.
try local photographers offer to carry their equipment, hold and umbrella in return for their tuition. but don’t tell other photographers that you are about to go alone in their area, as they will resent you because there is so much competition.

the bipp is the best qualification
